Meta has started to roll out “Custom Feed” for Threads users. The social media giant had started testing the feature less than a week ago.
What is the Custom Feed feature for Threads?
Meta has stepped up the pace and is aggressively improving Threads, a micro-blogging social media platform that rivals X (formerly Twitter). However, Meta’s aggression might not be intended to counter X.
Ever since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, there has been a rise in similar platforms. Bluesky is one such platform that has witnessed phenomenal growth. Moreover, as America voted for Trump, social media users signed up in droves, allowing Bluesky to cross 20 million users.
Perhaps intended to pull internet users, who are leaving X and looking for viable alternatives, Meta is now updating the Threads platform. The latest feature Threads has received is “Custom Feed”. As the name suggests, the feature would allow users to customize their feeds with likes and preferences. What is astonishing is that Meta indicated it was testing Custom Feeds on Threads merely five days ago.
How to activate the new feature on Threads?
Meta seems to be trying to meet user demand for more personalization of content that greets them when they log in. Custom feeds would allow Threads users to quickly and easily build feeds that prioritize specific topics or those including certain user profiles. The new feature would also simplify the process of tapping into the communities and conversations that users prefer.
Custom Feed on Threads challenges Bluesky’s own set of tools for personalization. Specifically speaking, Bluesky allows users to build their algorithms, feeds, and lists. It also allows users to configure their moderation tools.
To make a custom feed, Threads users need to search for a topic, then tap on the three dots menu next to the search bar, and then click on the “Create new feed” option in the app. These customized feeds can also contain information about multiple topics. Users need to just add a new one from a search. From the desktop, users need to click the three dots menu next to a feed.
Threads users can also add individual accounts to their custom feed. This gives users a lot of flexibility on what’s contained in that particular feed. With the rapid rollout of the feature on Threads, Meta may have indicated it is feeling the heat from Bluesky. However, with more than 275 million monthly users, Threads is currently far ahead of its nascent rivals.
