MediaTek is reportedly planning to launch an upgraded version of its flagship chip next year. According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Taiwanese company will release the Dimensity 9400+ to boost performance on high-end phones. The chip will likely offer slight improvements over the current Dimensity 9400 chip.

The Dimensity 9400+ chip to deliver faster speeds

The Dimensity 9400+ will likely feature higher CPU and GPU clock speeds than the Dimensity 9400. It will likely offer a peak clock speed of 3.70 GHz, up from 3.63 GHz on the current one. The GPU may also get a minor frequency bump for better gaming and visual performance on flagships.

The Dimensity 9400, which was released this year, is built on a second-generation TSMC 3nm process (N3E). It packs an octa-core processor with one Arm Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. The Dimensity 9400+ will likely keep this configuration while providing incremental performance improvements. The chip could build upon the advanced design of Dimensity 9400, which had 29.1 billion transistors.

The tipster didn’t provide specific details about the upcoming SoC, but it’s likely to be similar to the Dimensity 9400, with only a few minor changes.

This chip will power high-end smartphones

The Dimensity 9400 chip was already used in high-end phones this year, but now the Dimensity 9400+ will bring some improvements. Tipster claims that OPPO will feature the Dimensity 9400+ in its new Find X8 flagship series, with three models launching in the first half of next year. The models will come in 6.3-inch, 6.6-inch, and 6.8-inch display sizes.

Additionally, other upcoming flagship phones are expected to feature the new chip. Xiaomi is reportedly planning to expand its K80 series with the Redmi K80 Ultra, which could feature the Dimensity 9400+ chip. Similarly, iQOO is rumored to launch the iQOO Neo 10S Pro with the same chipset.

It seems MediaTek wants to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. Qualcomm’s chip has a peak clock speed of 4.32 GHz, much higher than MediaTek’s current offering. The Dimensity 9400+ will try to narrow the gap, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite will still be the leader in single-threaded performance.

However, the company still struggles in the US, where its chips are often linked to budget phones. The Dimensity 9400+ could help MediaTek improve its image as a high-end chip maker for flagships.
