The Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are the latest Samsung devices to receive the May 2022 Android security patch. The original foldable smartphones join their successors and several other Galaxy smartphones and tablets in picking up the latest security update.

The May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Fold is currently rolling out to users in the US as well as numerous Latin American markets, including Brazil, Colombia, and Panama, SamMobile has confirmed. The updated firmware version for the foldable is F900U1UES6HVD2 in the US and F900FXXS6HVD1 in Latin America.

The Galaxy Z Flip, on the other hand, is only getting the update in Latin America as of now. The new software package for the original clamshell foldable comes with build number F700FXXS8GVD8 in the region. Over the next few days, the latest update for both devices should reach several other markets across the world. Don’t be hopeful of any new features though. Having recently received One UI 4.1, the foldables are now only getting this month’s security fixes.

According to Samsung’s updated security bulletin, the May SMR contains fixes for about 50 vulnerabilities. These include over 30 bugs found in Google’s version of Android, with the rest being specific to the Korean firm’s Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip get the May security update

As has been the trend lately, Samsung was the first OEM to release the May SMR to its devices. The company has made it a habit to begin the rollout even before the new month has arrived. It was no different this time around as well. The Galaxy S22 series first picked up the May SMR in late April. Dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets have followed since. The Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are also now joining the party.

If you’re using either of Samsung’s first-gen foldable smartphones, the May security update will reach you shortly if you haven’t already received it. You will get a notification once the OTA package becomes available for your unit. Simply tap on that notification and follow the on-screen instructions to update your phone to the latest security patch.

Alternatively, you can check for updates manually from the Settings app on your phone. Navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If there’s no update available, check back again in a few days or wait for the notification.
