Born in Bulgaria, Maria Bakalova’s breakthrough role was as Tutar Sagdiyev in 2020’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, a sequel to the original Borat with Sacha Baron Cohen. Her performance included an in-character interview with Rudy Giuliani, though the latter was apparently unaware of who he was really speaking with, leading to a very awkward conversation that generated plenty of mainstream publicity at the time. The role earned her many awards, including the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress. She was also nominated for an Oscar for the role.

Just recently, Bakalova also served as a part of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special by providing the voice of Cosmo the Spacedog; she reprises that role for the upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. She’s also set to appear in the upcoming films Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, Fairyland, and Triumph. Bakalova’s other recent roles include appearing in A24’s slasher movie Bodies Bodies Bodies along with Netflix’s comedy The Bubble by director Judd Apatow.

The Honeymoon will be released in the United States on Dec. 16, 2022, courtesy of Lionsgate.
