A major leak has bared it all about Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S23 series. We now have detailed specifications of all three models a couple of weeks before launch. The information seems to have been obtained from the company’s official marketing materials for France. Read on to find what the Korean smartphone giant will bring to the table this year with its Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Leaked Galaxy S23 Ultra specifications
Let’s begin with the highest-specced model, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung unsurprisingly mentions the 200MP camera at the very beginning of its marketing materials for the phone. The device will get its newly-launched third-gen ISOCELL HP2 200MP image sensor. The sensor has a focal length of 23mm, an f/1.7 aperture, and an 85-degree field of view (FoV). Despite some rumors, sensor-shift camera stabilization isn’t here. Samsung is sticking to OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for at least one more year.
The other three rear cameras on the Galaxy S23 Ultra are pretty much unchanged, though. We are getting the same 12MP ultrawide lens (13mm focal length, f/2.2 aperture, and 120-degree FoV) as the Galaxy S22 Ultra last year. The two 10MP zoom cameras are also the same — one with 3X optical zoom and the other with 10X optical zoom. Samsung is offering 100X digital Space Zoom on the phone. The company also promises improved low-light and zoom photos, as well as 8K video recording.
On the front, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 12MP selfie camera, which is a resolution downgrade from the 40MP solution last year. But that doesn’t necessarily mean worse image quality. Moving on, this phone is equipped with a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display (3088 x 1440 pixels resolution). Samsung promises a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The screen comes with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, which is another upgrade from last year.
Samsung is shipping the Galaxy S23 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor globally. The chipset is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM (no LPDDR5X?) and 1TB of internal storage. It will also support a MicroSD card, along with two physical nano SIM cards and an eSIM. A 5,000mAh battery powers this phone, with support for 45W fast wired charging. Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. Once again, no Wi-Fi 7. Other highlights include dual stereo speakers, IP68 water resistance, an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and Android 13-based One UI 5.1 software.
Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ leaked specifications
The latest leak also details the specifications of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. These two models feature 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens, respectively. Samsung is also limiting them to Full HD+ resolutions (2340 x 1081 pixels) and a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate. Both phones are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 4nm processor but with only 8GB of RAM. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB for the former and 256GB and 512GB for the latter, at least in France.
The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ get fewer cameras on the back. They both feature the same 12MP ultrawide lens and 10MP 3X optical zoom camera as the Ultra model, but the primary shooter is a 50MP solution, which appears to be the same sensor from last year. Unsurprisingly, there’s no 100X Space Zoom on these models. The selfie camera doesn’t change across the lineup, though. The smaller models also feature the 12MP selfie shooter.
Another notable difference is in terms of the batter capacity. The Galaxy S23 packs a 3,900mAh battery while the Plus model gets a 4,700mAh unit. That’s a 200mAh increase in the battery capacity from last year. In terms of charging speeds, Samsung is rating the two phones at 25W and 45W, respectively. Everything else remains the same as on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, including connectivity options, software, and more. Despite coming in a smaller package, both models support a microSD card and two nano SIM cards (plus eSIM).
Price and availability
Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S23 series will be official on February 1. The company will probably open pre-orders for the devices on the same day. General sales aren’t expected to begin until mid-February, though. We will let you know when we have confirmation about that. Meanwhile, you can already reserve a Galaxy S23 and get up to $100 in Samsung Credit, redeemable when purchasing optional accessories.
