Check out the first trailer and poster for Maestro below.

Maestro has been described as a “towering and fearless love story” chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, Maestro, at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love. Maestro will explore the complex love of Leonard and Felicia, from the time they met in 1946 at a party, continuing through two engagements, a 25-year marriage, and three children.

Directed by Bradley Cooper from a screenplay he co-wrote with Josh Singer, Maestro finds Cooper also in the lead as American conductor, composer, pianist, author, and humanitarian Leonard Bernstein alongside Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre.

The rest of the cast includes Matt Bomer (Doom Patrol, Magic Mike’s Last Dance), Maya Hawke (Stranger Things, Do Revenge), Sarah Silverman (Wreck-It Ralph, Don’t Look Up), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, Shrinking), Gideon Glick (The Pale Blue Eye, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Sam Nivola (White Noise), Miriam Shor (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), and Alexa Swinton (And Just Like That…, Old).

Maestro also boasts some a star-studded line-up of producers alongside Cooper, including the likes of Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Todd Phillips.

Hollywood A-lister Bradley Cooper made the leap from acting to directing back in 2018 with his directorial debut, A Star Is Born. Leading the project alongside Lady Gaga, Cooper crafted a powerful, heartbreaking romantic drama that was met with critical acclaim and eight nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cooper, and Best Actress for Lady Gaga, winning Best Original Song for “Shallow.”

With this in mind, Cooper has a lot to live up to when it comes to Maestro, with the actor and director describing the project (in particular the conducting) as the “most terrifying” thing he’s ever done. In a roundtable conversation earlier this year with TÁR writer-director Todd Field and star Cate Blanchett, Cooper said, “Having worked on a project in the same world [as ‘TÁR’], the level of respect that I have for that world and that podium, it is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. And it’s so odd because so many people — I don’t know if you’ve come across this — but people that I have in the last five years have said, ‘Well, what is it that conductors even do? Aren’t you up there sort of doing like this?’”

Cooper continued adding, “And my answer is, ‘It’s the absolute hardest thing you could ever want to do. It is impossible.’”

Maestro is due to be released in select theaters on November 22 and will then land on Netflix on December 20.
