Deeply mysterious since it was first announced back in 2019, Madame Web will join the likes of Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter as part of Sony’s ever-growing Spider-Man cinematic universe. That so far does not actually include Spider-Man. Check out the first trailer for Madame Web below:

You can also check out the new synopsis for the movie below:

“”Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures… if they can all survive a deadly present.”

Directed by S. J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, Orange Is the New Black) from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, Madame Web has amassed an all-star cast to bring this Spider-Man live action spinoff to life.

The Sony Spidey outing stars Dakota Johnson as the title character alongside the likes of Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The Handmaid’s Tale, Reality) as Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman. The rest of the cast includes Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Freaky), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Sweet Girl), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet, The Mauritanian), Emma Roberts (We’re the Millers, American Horror Story), Mike Epps (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, I’m a Virgo), Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Severance), and Zosia Mamet (The Kids Are All Right, The Flight Attendant).

Sony Pictures’ Madame Web will be led by Fifty Shades of Grey and Suspiria Dakota Johnson, who cannot wait to bring the lesser-known Marvel character to the big screen for the first time.

“I’m so excited. It’s pretty cool to be in the Marvel world, especially with a character that’s not so known. There’s a lot of space to make her very cool. I’m very excited. It’s always been a dream of mine to do some kind of massive action movie. I always wanted to be like a female Indiana Jones. I really have always… I saw the new Top Gun, and it’s so good! It’s so good. There’s something about those movies, that’s just like, ‘Wow, a real human being can do that?'”

Johnson has also promised that, despite Madame Web being another big comic book movie blockbuster, she will bring some of the more intimate elements that she loves when making smaller scale movies.

“I guess having experience on all tiers of films I can bring maybe some stuff from the little movies to the big movies that I want to see in them, you know? I really love seeing large-scale films that still have heart in them.”

Alongside Madame Web, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (also sometimes known as the Venom-Verse) continues to grow. Following the release of such installments as Venom, Venom: Let There be Carnage, and the much-maligned Morbius, the spinoff cinematic universe will continue to introduce audiences to Spider-Man villains…without Spider-Man. Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe is up next, with Academy Award nominee and action star Tom Hardy is now working on bringing Eddie Brock and Venom back to the silver screen with Venom 3, which is set to be directed by Kelly Marcel.

Madame Web is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 14, 2024.
