Our homes are getting smarter. There’s a lot more automation involved, where users can schedule their thermostats, lights, and more. If you’re looking for more ways of automating your home, at CES 2025, Lutron has announced its brand new smart shades that will fall under its Caséta series.
Smart home compatible
Shades for our windows aren’t new, but technology has made them smarter. Now, features like remote control, automation, and integration with smart home systems allow users to adjust shades more efficiently and with more customization than ever before. The new Lutron Caséta smart shades are a good example. They’re pretty simple and straightforward and can do pretty much what you’d expect from a smart home device.
The smart shades are also compatible with various smart home platforms. This includes Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Sonos, and more. The Caséta shades don’t seem to be Matter compatible. If it is, it’s not advertised.
The Matter standard is supposed to unify the various smart home platforms together. It will allow a smart home device to work across platforms. While this might seem like a drawback, the Caséta ecosystem is already compatible with such a wide array of smart home platforms that it doesn’t really matter all too much.
Maybe Lutron will update these smart shades to be Matter-compatible at a later stage. But for now, they are not and it might be something that you will want to take note of.
More affordable
Lutron is no stranger when it comes to smart shades. The company’s previous smart shade offerings have been under its Serena series, which are pricier. The Caséta lineup used to exclusively offer smart lighting, but the introduction of these smart shades is expanding its lineup.
The smart shades start at a price of $399. This will cover shades up to 48-inches wide and up to 80-inches high. Users who need more custom sizing can request for them. These go up to 96-inches in width and 104-inches in length. These sizes come with an additional cost. Additionally, you can add blackout functionality for an extra $30.
It’s important to note that physical controls for the blinds, such as the hub, remotes, and wall controls, are sold separately. You can always control the smart shades using the app or a smart speaker if you’d rather not spend extra money.
Lutron says the Caséta Smart Shades will begin shipping in February 2025. They are available in roller or honeycomb styles and come in either a white or gray finish.
