Google started taking pre-orders for its second-gen foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, soon after the unveiling on August 13. The foldable is flying off of virtual shelves already at Google Store with the phone going out-of-stock within days after the launch. The search titan will start shipping the flagship on September 4. However, one lucky user received the pre-ordered Pixel 9 Pro Fold unit early and has posted pictures from the unboxing.

Here’s the unboxing of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold that shipped early

A lucky Reddit user who goes by the name “Ok_Row_3905” has already received the Pixel 9 Pro Fold before anyone else. Located in Europe, the buyer got the Obsidian variant of the phone at a physical store. The person has graced us with the early unboxing of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

As you can see in the images from unboxing, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold ships in a much slimmer packaging. Notably, the original Pixel Fold’s packaging was more rectangular and twice as thick as the latest model. The new device ships unfolded with a protective sleeve in the retail box. The phone’s USB Type-C cable and other contents are placed underneath the unfolded smartphone. The original Pixel Fold was delivered folded and placed at the center of the box.

The owner also compares the device with the older model

Apart from the unboxing, the photos also provide a good look at the latest foldable phone’s display crease fresh out of the box. Notably, the Reddit user has also posted a comprehensive image shoot comparing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold with the older model. The new phone’s different aspect ratio is quite obvious, as is its bigger size than the predecessor. The slimmer design of the 9 Pro Fold is also visible in these images as compared to the thicker Pixel Fold.

That said, Google will start selling the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in the stores on September 4. The phone comes only in two color variants including Obsidian and Porcelain. The flagship comes in two variants. The base model with 256GB of storage costs $1,799. The higher-end variant with 512GB of space will set you back by $1,919.

Due to insufficient stocks, the shipping date for some buyers is pushed to mid-October. We shall find out more soon enough, so stay tuned.
