Filmed in County Donegal, Ireland, In the Land of Saints and Sinners reunites Liam Neeson with The Marksman director Robert Lorenz, who is also best known for producing the likes of American Sniper and Mystic River. The screenplay has been penned by Mark Michael McNally and Terry Loane.
Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson stars in In the Land of Saints and Sinners alongside fellow Academy Award nominees Ciarán Hinds (Belfast) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), with the likes of Colm Meaney (The Banker) and Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones) making up the rest of the supporting cast.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners Will Debut at the 80th Venice International Film Festival
In the Land of Saints and Sinners is now confirmed to be making its debut at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and will premiere at the event today. So, while the movie finds Neeson starring once again as a man with a mysterious, violent past, and who possessing skills which he has acquired over a very long career, In the Land of Saints and Sinners will perhaps have a little more prestige than some of the actor’s previous action-thriller fare.
Neeson continues his legacy as the go-to aged action man, with the actor having led the Speed-like thriller Retribution earlier this year. He is also due to star in Thug, in which Neeson stars as a brooding aging gangster; Cold Storage, in which he’ll star alongside Stranger Things actor Joe Keery; and the sequel Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, which finds Neeson embarking on another adventure behind the wheel. And this is without even mentioning the other thrillers on the horizon such as The Riker’s Ghost, and Charlie Johnson in the Flames.
Neeson though has threatened to retire from the action hero game multiple times over the last few years saying, “Oh, yeah. I think so. I’m 68 and a half. 69 this year. There’s a couple more I’m going to do this year — hopefully, COVID allowing us — there’s a couple in the pipeline and, then I think that will probably be it. Well, unless I’m on a Zimmer frame or something,” back in 2021.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners will premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 6, 2023. Samuel Goldwyn Films will release the thriller domestically, while Netflix will host the movie in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
