As a DC super team from the 30th and 31st centuries, the Legion of Super-Heroes was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino for 1958’s Adventure Comics #247. The Legion represents the natural progression of the first generation known as the Justice League in comic books, in which multiple heroes are descendants of the meta-humans from the present day. The Legion frequently crosses paths with the Justice League in numerous time-travel adventures to protect their own corner of history and fight villains from their own time. Several stories claim the Legion trained Superman in his youth before sending him back in time to protect Earth.

In Legion of Super-Heroes, Kara (Supergirl) struggles to adjust to life on Earth after losing Krypton. Superman, her cousin, suggests that she might do well if she attended a super-hero academy in the 31st century, allowing her to explore her powers, meet new friends, and meet a new enemy: Brainiac 5. Kara’s powers seem to make her a perfect match for this group, but Batman fears she’s still not in control of her powers, making her a danger to others. In the meantime, the academy’s vault is being searched for a powerful weapon by a mysterious group called The Dark Circle. As if all of this weren’t bad enough, members of the Legion are disappearing, and Kara has been contacted by the Dark Circle, causing everything to fall apart. In order to guarantee the safety of the Legion, the new heroes must demonstrate their expertise and defeat the still unknown sinister plot of the Dark Circle villains, proving their worth.

Several DC series repeatedly featured members of the Legion, but this film will focus on retelling classic stories from the comic series. DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes animated film will be available on Blu-ray and digital in early 2023.
