Motorola is readying a new flagship Android smartphone called the Edge 40 Pro. A major leak revealed the detailed specifications of the phone a couple of weeks back. We also recently saw some unofficial renders. Today, we have an official-looking render of the phone in blue and black colors confirming its design.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro will be the global version of the Moto X40 that was launched in China last month. So we were already expecting the upcoming phone to look identical to its Chinese version. These renders confirm that. Motorola tends to do this quite often. The Lenovo-owned brand launches its latest flagship in its home country and brings it to the global market a few months later with a new name.

Coming back to the design, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro has a curved display with symmetric top and bottom bezels (via). An under-display fingerprint scanner sits at a comfortable height in the lower half of the screen. It should be an optical scanner. There’s a punch-hole selfie camera at the top. The power and volume buttons reside on the right side, with a microphone hole underneath them.

On the back, we have a triple camera setup housed in a rounded rectangular island. The camera island has “50MP 2.0µm OIS” printed on it, confirming the unchanged primary shooter (more on that later). The Moto batwing logo sits at the center, with the “Motorola” branding a little lower. While we don’t see the bottom edge of this phone in the leaked renders, it should be home to the speaker grille, USB Type-C port, microphone, and SIM tray.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro specifications

Motorola will equip the Edge 40 Pro with pretty much the same internals as its China-only sibling. It will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Once again, we should be looking at LPDDR5 RAM (not the latest LPDDR5X) and UFS 4.0 storage, which is the latest mobile storage solution.

The 6.75-inch OLED display will get a Full HD+ resolution and a staggering refresh rate of 165Hz. Motorola should slap a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus panel on top of the screen. For photos and videos, you’re getting a 50MP primary shooter which has 1µm native pixels. However, it supports 4-in-1 pixel binning for 2µm when the lighting isn’t adequate. The camera supports optical image stabilization (OIS).

Other highlights of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro include a 50MP ultrawide lens, 12MP 2X optical zoom camera, 60MP selfie shooter, 5,000mAh battery with 125W wired and 15W wireless charging support, and Android 13-based software. The launch date is not known yet but rumors suggest the device will go official during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in late February. We will keep you posted.
