Samsung is one of the companies that offers longer software support across multiple product lines. Recently, Samsung’s latest smart TVs inherited the 7-year update policy of its Galaxy flagship phones. In line with this, the company will also update products like the older Galaxy Watch 4, whose latest One UI 6 beta build brings Global AOD.
What is Global AOD on Galaxy Watch devices?
Samsung debuted Global AOD on the latest Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Normally, when the watch “falls asleep” and the AOD appears, the screen only shows your watch face in a low-power mode. However, Global AOD allows the watch to display the latest screen you were viewing before the AOD was activated. That is, you can continue checking useful data without having to touch the watch screen, which is especially useful if you have your hands busy working out or doing other things. Global AOD also uses a low-power mode and integrates a clock overlay that shows you the time, which is essential in a watch.
This AOD advanced version is one of the main improvements in One UI 6 for Galaxy Watch devices. Industry sources suggest that the Wear OS 5-based stable update will arrive in the next few weeks. Even though the Galaxy Watch 4 is a few years old, Samsung won’t leave it without Global AOD and other new features. Samsung is rolling out the new beta build (ending in ZXH4), which will be the first in South Korea. The company also integrated the feature into the latest One UI 6 beta builds of the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 6 series.
It’s always pleasing to see devices from years ago still receiving updates, especially when the updates include useful new features instead of just bug fixes. It’s noteworthy that the Galaxy Watch 4 is practically a twin of the new Galaxy Watch FE. Both wearables share most of their internal components. So, the FE model will probably also get Global AOD in the near future.
