FX’s acclaimed six-season modern Western Justified may have been a showcase for the laconic charm, easygoing charisma and action hero credentials of leading man Timothy Olyphant’s U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, but Walton Goggins’ Boyd Crowder was just as integral to the sprawling story.
It’s gone down in television folklore that the infamous Kentucky outlaw was originally only supposed to be killed off in the pilot, but the actor ended up sticking around for the duration. The scenes between Olyphant and Goggins could always be relied on to generate sparks, and their chemistry was rightly regarded as one of Justified‘s strongest suits.
With that in mind, it’s completely understandable that fans have been demanding the criminal with the sh*t-eating grin return alongside his opposite number in the recently-announced limited series City Primeval, as you can see from the reactions below.
The last time we saw Boyd, he was still very much alive, although he was in prison for the litany of crimes he’d committed across the years. Raylan even lied to him that Joelle Carter’s Ava had died in a car crash three years earlier to protect her safety, so there’s definitely plenty of meaty narrative ground left to cover.
Even if Goggins doesn’t return as a series regular, Justified: City Primeval would definitely be missing a trick if it didn’t at least rope him in for a cameo appearance of some description.
