Netflix has released the official trailer for The Bubble, a star-studded comedy from director Judd Apatow. Inspired by the problems the pandemic has brought to movie sets, the film follows a cast and crew going into lockdown while filming an over-the-top dinosaur movie. Co-written by Apatow and Pam Brady, the feature is set for a release on April 1. For now, you can get your first look at the movie and its ensemble cast by watching the brand-new trailer below.
There’s no shortage of talent in the cast for this film. It stars Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Pedro Pascal, Peter Serafinowicz, Vir Das, Rob Delaney, Galen Hopper, Samson Kayo, Guz Khan, Nick Kocher, Ross Lee, Harry Trevaldwyn, and Danielle Vitalis.
The movie, also produced by Judd Apatow, certainly has his brand of sense of humor all over it. The official logline for The Bubble reads: “A comedy about a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a sequel to an action franchise film about flying dinosaurs.”
The Bubble Features a Movie Within a Movie, Which Netflix Used for Marketing
In The Bubble, the cast is filming a fictional movie called Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem. Ahead of the release of the trailer for The Bubble, Netflix first released a spoof teaser for the Cliff Beasts movie, confusing many who had no idea about the association to the Judd Apatow film. While the Cliff Beasts series does not exist in reality, many fans had fun with the fake teaser, which has undoubtedly drummed up some interest for the film.
Perhaps it is only fitting for this new movie to have an April Fools’ Day premiere, as Netflix wanted people to be confused before officially revealing the truth about the marketing for The Bubble. A press release from Netflix states: “You were probably wondering: What the heck is Cliff Beasts and why have I never heard of this franchise? The Bubble follows the making of Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem, the sixth installment of the ’23rd largest Dino franchise ever.’ Thanks for playing along with us!”
“We’re trying to make a big action franchise film, like we’re number six in the franchise, and we’re all different levels of happy to be coming back for the sixth time,” one of the film’s stars, David Duchovny, previously told Forbes about the plot. “And it’s really just charting the protocols you have to do to make a movie and then the added pressures of what it must be like for people who’ve been working together for so many years to then be quarantined together, and the kind of petty hatreds and petty competition and just the boredom and the freakouts that would happen in such a pressure cooker of quarantining.”
The Bubble will start streaming on Netflix on April 1, 2022.
