Jordan Peele hasn’t been afraid to try something new ever since his directorial debut, Get Out, in 2017. His ideas paid off, with the movie being a massive box office success raking in $255 million globally on a $4 million budget. Peele did it again in 2019 with his film Us, which made another $255 million at the theater while receiving generally favorable reviews. Now, the director is looking for a three-peat with his newest movie, Nope.

The film centers around residents in an isolated town in California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Based on the trailers we’ve seen thus far, the movie will focus on the Haywood ranch and the visitors arriving at their front door. A new T.V. spot for the film was just released and can be found below:

In the new trailer, we see James and Jill Haywood, played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer, reciting the movie’s title, and we get our first real look at the alien spacecraft intruding on the ranch. It looks like the typical flying saucer; however, knowing Peele, this film will undoubtedly have a few twists and turns along the way.

Jordan Peele is Going Away From a Grounded Story

Although Peele’s previous films featured some fantastical elements in the story, Nope is going all out with the confirmed inclusion of extra-terrestrials invading the Haywood ranch. So naturally, the director will be looking to frighten audiences just as much as he did with his other films, and he recently explained the reactions he wants viewers to have. During Universal’s CinemaCon panel, he explained he wants fans who typically say “nope” to horror movies to give them another chance. Peele believes he can bring an entirely new audience to his latest film and invites fans to enjoy the shared experience of being scared together. Entertainment Weekly reported his comments from the Universal Pictures panel:

“I love a rapt audience saying ‘Nope!’ or ‘Get out the house!’ I love to encourage that interaction because that’s what’s giving the audience a unique experience. Roller coasters aren’t fun alone. Being scared isn’t fun alone. You need that energy.”

Starring alongside Kaluuya and Palmer is Steven Yuen, Barbie Ferreira, and Brandon Perea. Nope debuts in theaters on July 22nd.
