Jenna Ortega returns to the screen alongside Hollywood legend Tommy Lee Jones and a great cast in Finestkind, Academy Award-nominee Brian Helgeland’s new film for Paramount+.

It’s been eight years since Helgeland last sat in the director’s chair for Legend, the Reggie Kray and Ron Kray biopic starring Tom Hardy in one of his best performances. The filmmaker returns with Finestkind, a drama full of action and mystery, very faithful to the style he has shown in the past, especially in the movie that earned him an Oscar nomination, Mystic River.

Starring an A-list cast lead by Tommy Lee Jones, Jenna Ortega, Ben Foster, Toby Wallace, Tim Daly, Clayne Crawford, and Aaron Stanford, the movie is set to be released on Paramount+ in December. Check out a clip and synopsis for Finestkind below:

“Finestkind tells the story of two brothers (Ben Foster & Toby Wallace), raised in different worlds, who are reunited as adults over a fateful summer. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. Along the way, a young woman (Jenna Ortega) finds herself caught perilously in the middle. Sacrifices must be made and bonds between brothers, friends, lovers, and a father (Tommy Lee Jones) and his son are put to the ultimate test.”

Finestkind is the sixth movie directed by Helgeland, whose filmography includes other notable titles such as 2001’s A Knight’s Tale starring Heath Ledger, and 2013’s 42 starring the late Chadwick Boseman.

After a very busy 2022, which included taking the lead in Netflix hit, Wednesday, 2023 was a little calmer for Jenna Ortega. This year she returned as Tara Carpenter in Scream VI, hosted Saturday Night Live, and her only pending release is Finestkind. However, the future of the actress looks better and brighter, and there is no doubt that she has already become one of the most popular names in Hollywood.

Next year she will work again with Tim Burton in the long-awaited sequel to Beetlejuice, where she will play the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). It has not yet been confirmed, but she could also star in the seventh installment of Scream, after the enormous success of the last two movies in the horror saga had, where her character played a very important part within the plot.

In addition, she has four other projects in development. The comedy Death of a Unicorn, in which she will star alongside Paul Rudd; Jade Bartlett’s Miller’s Girl; an untitled movie directed by Trey Edward Shults; and Tiffany Paulsen’s Winter Spring Summer or Fall. And of course, she will return to play the famous eldest daughter of The Addams Family in the second season of Wednesday, one of Netflix’s top priorities now that the writers’ strike is over. So Ortega will be keeping herself very busy in the near future.
