Former Twitter CEO and the company’s co-founder, Jack Dorsey, addressed Twitter’s mass layoffs. He said that he is blaming himself for this because he “grew the company size too quickly”.
Despite the initial denials that he will fire 75% of employees, Elon Musk finally announced that Twitter would lay off a large number of employees (around half). To justify the decision, the billionaire says Twitter is losing $4 million a day, and he had “no choice” other than laying off the workforce. While many people blame Musk for the decision, Former CEO Jack Dorsey is taking responsibility for every one fired from the company.
Dorsey added he understands that the fired employees might be angry with him, but he is grateful for everyone who has worked for the company. “I don’t expect that to be mutual in this moment… or ever… and I understand,” Dorsey said.
Jack Dorsey says he grew the company size too quickly
Dorsey’s apology comes on the heels of a report by The New York Post that alluded to the employees’ anger towards their former CEO. A source familiar with the situation told The Post that Dorsey is now hated at Twitter because employees are blaming him for Musk’s takeover and wide layoffs. Back in October, after Musk officially proposed his buyout offer, Jack Dorsey was one of the first supporters of the plan. “This is the right path… I believe it with all my heart.” Dorsey said at the time.
The Post continues that Twitter employees were also angry with the company’s stagnation under Dorsey. Before Musk’s offer, Twitter’s stock price was $37 for almost ten years. However, Dorsey was reportedly “gallivanting around on his jet with these models,” and no one could blame him because he was considered to be the next Steve Jobs.
Elon Musk’s era on Twitter started with a lot of controversies. However, it can’t continue like that, and the company needs peace for its operations. Especially since the midterm election is ahead, and many people are waiting to see how Twitter’s new content moderation policy works during the election. Musk already confirmed that Twitter wants to form a content moderation council that includes “widely diverse viewpoints.”
