“This may be the most obscene thing he’s ever done…”

Every time the White House official X account posts anything, people flood the comment section to complain and wonder who actually runs it. Well, the account just made another blunder — this time, offending Catholics.

As for who runs the account, it’s only a matter of time before we find out. With the Donald Trump administration, leaks are a guarantee. People in the comments seem certain it’s Barron Trump, since Trump once called him a “computer genius” and even credited him for the 2024 campaign. But considering Trump later clarified that he thinks Barron is a genius because he can turn on a powered-off laptop, it’s hard to take him seriously on that front.

Then there’s Trump joking about becoming the next pope. It all started when, after Pope Francis passed away, a reporter on the White House lawn asked who Trump would pick as pope. According to People, Trump joked that he’d pick himself. The joke landed in that particular moment. He later cleaned up the answer, saying he’d be rooting for Archbishop Timothy Dolan.

For some reason, though, Trump’s team couldn’t just leave it there. They had to drag the joke out. According to Yahoo!, the next thing we saw was Senator Lindsey Graham taking to X to champion Trump for pope, calling him a dark horse in the race. Then Trump followed up by posting an AI-generated image of himself as Pope on Truth Social.

That offending post was then reposted on the official White House X account – a page that represents America is now Trump’s mouthpiece.

Users on X — especially Catholics — found the whole thing humiliating and offensive to their faith and to the country. One user simply said, “it’s sickening.”

It’s hard to understand why Trump took it this far. Maybe it’s tone-deafness. Maybe hearing laughter at one of his jokes made him want to stretch the rare moment of positive coverage. It’s probably a mix of both. This isn’t even Trump’s first time disrespecting others. And all of this is unfolding as the global community remains puzzled by him wearing a blue suit — instead of the customary black — to the Pope’s funeral. President Trump has made blunder after blunder in his handling of other major global issues.

And it’s not just about disrespecting the Vatican. He’s also been toying with various ways to bully Canada. And Greenland, too. Most people in those countries haven’t found anything amusing about Trump’s statements. There’s nothing funny about disrespect.

And Trump himself knows that. When he felt slighted by President Zelenskyy, he shouted at him in front of the media. So since Trump does understand the importance of respect, his hypocrisy is just blinding. There’s a fantasy world the MAGA crowd shelters itself in, where only other people’s words are offensive. When it’s them, the problem is just people who “can’t take a joke.”
