The 20th anniversary of the iPhone is approaching, and Apple plans to celebrate it in a big way. According to rumors, the company is planning to redesign the iPhone with an all-glass design. The rumors claim that the iPhone will feature a “mostly glass” design with curved edges, suggesting that the glass could wrap around the sides of the handset.
Now, thanks to a report from Korean publication ETNews, more details have emerged on the rumored all-glass iPhone.
An all-glass iPhone design
According to the report, Apple is in talks with both Samsung Display and LG Display to help make its bezel-less iPhone a reality. Apparently, it will feature a “four-sided bending display” which moves the bezels to the sides of the phone. This helps to create an illusion that the phone is made from a single piece of glass when viewed from the front.
If you’re trying to imagine what it could look like, look no further than Xiaomi. Xiaomi actually showed off a similar concept four years ago with a phone where the glass wraps around the sides of the handset. The company called it a “Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone” and it looks pretty damn cool. Will Apple go down this path? That’s hard to say, but it could serve as a visual cue as to what we can expect.
What else can we expect?
In addition to a potentially striking (and fragile) new design, we’ve heard rumors that Apple could finally employ an under-display camera. We’re already hearing rumors that Apple could introduce an under-display Face ID system in the iPhone 18 Pro in 2026. However, come 2027, Apple could go one step further with an under-display camera. These types of cameras aren’t new. We’ve seen several Android handset makers use them in the past.
However, the photo quality of these cameras has been less than ideal. This is why companies like Apple and Samsung have held off on using it for so long.
The 20th anniversary iPhone could also usher in new battery technology. Apple might use a solid-state battery with an all-silicon cathode, which would allow Apple to make its iPhone batteries thinner but also denser. Needless to say, 2027 is still a long way off, so take this with a grain of salt.
