MacGillivray Freeman FIlms has just released the trailer for the IMAX documentary, Ireland, narrated by Northen Ireland-born Liam Neeson. Neeson will introduce the audience to the wonders of Ireland, its landscape, traditions and history, following Irish writer Manchán Magan in his attempt to reignite the passion of people of Irish heritage around the world and invite them to reconnect with their heritage.
The official synopsis reads, “Ireland invites giant screen audiences on a joyful adventure into the Emerald Isle’s immense natural beauty, rich history, language, music and arts. Amid such awe-inspiring locations as Giant’s Causeway, Skellig Michael and the Cliffs of Moher, the film follows Irish writer Manchán Magan on his quest to reconnect Irish people from around the world with their land, language, and heritage. Joining him are four teen music students who together discover new insight into their Irish traditions and culture. From the bustle of Dublin and Belfast to the rugged Irish coast where the team meets scientists studying basking sharks and the comical puffins of Skellig, Ireland will have audiences falling in love with this island nation all over again.”
“There is a movement in Ireland to reconnect with our heritage, to rediscover what it means to be Irish, and I am delighted to help bring the joy and diversity of all that Ireland has to offer, both the old and the new, to IMAX and giant-screen audiences worldwide,” said Liam Neeson. “As viewers experience Ireland’s great beauty and humanity on the world’s largest screens, they will fall in love all over again.”
Speaking of the film, director Greg MacGillivray says, “As one of Ireland’s greatest storytellers, Liam Neeson’s prodigious talent and luminous voice lend a richness to our story that intertwines Ireland’s ancient past with its vibrant future. Ireland has long captivated the world’s imagination with its rich history and picturesque landscapes, and with this film we hope to share with audiences, including the 70 million people of Irish descent living around the world, all the wonder and cultural diversity that makes the island of Ireland such a unique and special place.”
Next up for Liam Neeson, he will be starring alongside Aidan Quinn, Taylor John Smith, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Zac Lemons and Andrew Shaw in Blacklight. Neeson will play Travis Block, a shadowy government agent who specializes in removing operatives whose covers have been exposed. Block uncovers a deadly conspiracy within his own ranks that reaches the highest echelons of power. The film is directed by Mark Williams (Honest Thief, A Definitely or Maybe), and the screenplay was penned by Nick May.
Following Blacklight, Neeson will be starring in Retribution alongside Matthew Modine, Embeth Davidtz and Arian Moayed in the remake of the 2015 Spanish film El Desconocido. A bank executive, while driving his children to school, receives a bomb threat that his car will explode if they stop and get out.
This will be Neeson’s fourth time partnering with MacGillivray Freeman Films, having narrated Everest, Journey Into Amazing Caves and Coral Reef Adventure. Ireland will be headed to giant screen and IMAX theaters in February.
