iPhones won’t get a rather important Android spec until late 2024. Well, at least based on the latest report from ShrimpApplePro, a tipster, and relayed by MacRumors. What spec are we talking about here? Well, a newer and faster RAM.

iPhones won’t get a rather important Android spec until late 2024

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Ultra are said to be the very iPhones to offer LPDDR5X RAM. That RAM has been used in a number of Android smartphones already, and many more are coming in the coming months. Phones like the OnePlus 11 and Xiaomi 13 Pro already use it.

Why the iPhone 16 Ultra? Well, Apple is rumored to adopt that branding with the iPhone 15, for the Pro Max model, basically. It makes more sense as the Apple Watch Ultra launched, and it’s definitely a better choice than ‘Pro Max’.

In any case, the current ‘Pro’ models of iPhones, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, include LPDDR5 RAM. The non-Pro iPhone 14s utilize LPDDR4X RAM. The tipster claims that the iPhone 15 Pro will continue using LPDDR5 RAM. We don’t know about the regular iPhone 15, though.

The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to utilize the Apple A17 Bionic chip

The tipster also said that the iPhone 15 Pro will utilize the Apple A17 Bionic chip. That processor will allegedly be made using TSMC’s n3B chip process. The Apple A18 Bionic, on the other hand, will use TSMC’s enhanced 3nm process.

This is kind of disappointing, at least from an Android user’s standpoint. Apple always takes its time, though, so quite frankly this is not all that surprising. As long as the phones work fine, most Apple users don’t really care.

The thing is, when you’re paying that much for a phone, you’d expect Apple to use the latest and greatest hardware. That is, unfortunately, not always the case, and this could be a prime example of that.
