Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 16 series next month. While the Cupertino tech giant hasn’t officially set a date yet, the new iPhones are rumored to be unveiled on September 10. Ahead of the launch, numerous leaks have suggested that the iPhone 16 series will bring a new “Capture” button.
Now, Apple Insider has revealed almost all camera details regarding the new iPhones. The source claims that the iPhone 16 series will offer significant improvements in the camera department.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus camera improvements
According to the report, both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will retain a couple of cameras at the rear. The source suggests these cameras will be placed vertically instead of diagonally, reiterating previous leaks. The main camera on the two models will remain the same as the iPhone 15. It will be a 48MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and 2x telephoto photography support.
The secondary ultrawide lens is said to flaunt a faster f/2.2 aperture as compared to f/2.4 in last year’s models. The new shooter is expected to offer better imaging in low-light conditions. Furthermore, the non-Pro iPhone 16 versions are said to boast support for macro photography for the first time.
iPhone 16 Pro variants will flaunt an upgraded ultrawide 48MP camera
Moving on to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, these are tipped to continue featuring a 48MP main camera. However, the ultrawide camera of the iPhone 16 Pro models will flaunt significant improvements. The phones will get a 48MP ultrawide sensor with Pixel Binning technology. Notably, it will be able to shoot 48MP ProRaw photos. The iPhone 16 Pro models will also get the 5x tetraprism telephoto lens introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year.
The “Capture” button will be available on all four models
Furthermore, the latest report suggests that the new capacitive “Capture” button will be available on all four iPhone models coming this year. The new information is in line with the previous reports that also suggested the same. The button will be used exclusively by the camera apps. Notably, users will be able to configure which camera app the Capture button opens, including third-party ones.
The “Capture” button will be force-sensitive, allowing users to do different things by changing the pressure on the key. The capacitive button will act like a trackpad – sliding a finger over it could trigger different actions. Notably, the report claims that Apple will add a new photo format called “JPEG-XL” this year. Also, the two iPhone 16 Pro variants will support 3K recording at 120fps with Dolby Vision.
Most of the details of the iPhone 16 series including their specs, US pricing, and promo images already leaked earlier. We are now just waiting to confirm these reports at the official launch event next month, so stay tuned for more updates.
