This is not the first time we’re hearing that Apple plans to include a periscope camera in one of its phones. Still, back in February, a well-known insider reported that only the ‘Pro Max’ model will get it. Well, it seems like both iPhone 15 Pro series models will feature a periscope camera, and even its price got revealed.

Both iPhone 15 Pro series devices will include a periscope camera

There is still a chance that Apple will rename the iPhone 15 Pro Max to iPhone 15 Ultra, though, so keep that in mind. In any case, based on new info, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra will feature a 10x periscope camera on the back. That will be a considerable improvement over a 3x telephoto unit on current-gen models.

The vanilla iPhone 15 models will not see such an improvement. Those two devices will likely stick with wide-angle and ultrawide angle cameras. Having said that, Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed the price Apple will be paying for that periscope unit.

This is how much it will cost

According to that info, the company will be paying just shy of $4 per periscope camera module. Apple will be getting them from Largan exclusively this year, even though Genius is usually a part of the equation

For Largan the profit margins may be non-existent. The industry average is $4.50-$5 per module. To make things worse, Apple may end up paying even less next year, when Genius gets in on the action.

One thing to note is that the price doesn’t include all the R&D costs on Apple’s side, of course. Also, the pricing is adjusted after the economies of scale come into play. Either way we spin it, however, that seems to be quite low.

The iPhone 15 Pro series will also feature solid-state buttons, unlike the vanilla models. All iPhone 15 devices will, however, feature a Dynamic Island this time around, and the same goes for Type-C ports. Apple is expected to announce four devices as part of the series, in September.
