Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 18, is finally available to download for compatible devices. The Cupertino tech giant’s latest OS brings a handful of new useful features. The iOS 18 version also includes a few notable changes to the iPhone’s battery health and charging settings. In addition, iOS 18 will now give a warning if your charger is too slow.

iOS 18 brings a new warning system that alerts for slow chargers

The new iPhone OS update adds some welcome battery controls. Whenever you are using a slow charger, iOS 18 will give you a warning. The OS adds a new “Slow Charger” warning to the Battery section of the Settings app of the iPhone. It will start showing with continued use of a slow charger.

iOS 18 adds an orange color to the Battery Level graph to indicate periods of slow charging, instead of green for times of fast charging. As of now, it’s not clear what charging speed triggers the “Slow Charger” warning in iOS 18. However, it’s still a welcome feature to know if you are using a bad charger or not. It is important because it may damage your iPhone’s battery.

Notably, Apple seems to be encouraging iPhone users to utilize a genuine or high-quality charger with this warning.

iOS 18 also offers many other battery controls

Apart from a warning for slow chargers, iOS 18 also brings a handful of other useful battery controls. It now allows you to cap your iPhone’s charging cap at 85%, 90%, and 95%. These are additions to the previously offered 80% limit. Just like many other phones, the iPhone also lets you cap charging at a certain level, which ultimately extends the total lifespan of the battery.

That said, iOS 18 has started rolling out to millions of devices around the world. While the new update brings a smorgasbord of new features, it doesn’t have Apple Intelligence yet. Sadly, the flagship feature will be available in the upcoming iOS 18.1 update. The new update can be installed on the iPhone 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, XS, XR, and iPhone SE (2nd-gen or later).
