After months of anticipation, some of the most exciting Apple Intelligence features are finally starting to roll out, with iOS 18.2 today. The update will start to roll out to compatible iPhones later today, and includes upgrades to Camera Control on iPhone 16 series, as well as a redesign for the Mail app and much more.
When it comes to Apple Intelligence, this update does bring in a few pretty sought-after features. Like Image Playground. This is a new app that will be installed on your iPhone that will allow you to create AI-generated images. You are able to swipe through previews and choose from concepts you’d like to add to your playground. Images you create with Image Playground are synced to your library across all iCloud-enabled devices, too.
Genmoji is also debuting in iOS 18.2, which lets you create a custom emoji right from the keyboard. These are also synced in your sticker drawer across all of your devices with iCloud.
ChatGPT integration with Siri and Writing Tools is finally available
The much anticipated integration with ChatGPT is finally here in iOS 18.2, which works with Siri and Writing Tools. Allowing you to compose in Writing Tools and use ChatGPT to improve what you’re writing.
Siri can also now tap into ChatGPT when your question needs a bit more help. Keep in mind that a ChatGPT account is not required and your requests will be anonymous, and it also won’t be used to train OpenAI’s models.
Outside of Apple Intelligence, Camera Control is getting a much needed update, including Visual Intelligence. The much needed two-stage shutter is also available in iOS 18.2. And finally, the Mail app redesign that Apple showed off at WWDC last year, is also available in iOS 18.2, which brings a few different tabs to the home screen of the app, much like Gmail has had for many years. There’s the Primary tab, Transactions, Updates and Promotions.
You can download iOS 18.2 later today.
