Set ten years after the end of previous first two films, 2010’s Insidious and 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, Insidious: The Red Door finds Josh Lambert heading east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream soon becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.

The fifth outing in the hugely successful Insidious franchise will reunite the likes of Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert, Rose Byrne as Renai Lambert, Ty Simpkins as Dalton Lambert, and Andrew Astor as Foster Lambert as this poor, put upon family once again find themselves facing down all manner of demons and ghouls from The Further. The likes of Peter Dager, Jarquez McClendon, Sinclair Daniel, and Hiam Abbass will also feature in Insidious: The Red Door, which promises to once again terrify audiences and continue the legacy of James Wan, Leigh Whannell, and Jason Blum’s beloved horror series.

Not only will Insidious: The Red Door continue on from the events of the second movie and reunite audiences with the Lambert family, it will also feature actor and star Patrick Wilson in a new role: director. Insidious: The Red Door is directed by Patrick Wilson in his directorial debut, with the actor working from screenplay by Scott Teems and a story by series creator Leigh Whannell.

Producer and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum, cannot wait to see what Wilson cooks up as a filmmaker. “But I’m super excited for what Patrick’s doing with Insidious. One of the things I love best about working with Patrick Wilson is that we don’t actually talk about the movie that we are making on set,” Blum said of Wilson making his filmmaker debut. “We geek out about all the movies that we loved growing up, because Patrick and I are roughly of the same generation. We’re just constantly geeking out about John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China and all these movies.”

Not only is Blum assured of Wilson’s skills by the movies they both love, but he has even compared the actor to Insidious creator and The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell. “Patrick reminds me a little bit of Leigh Whannell in that they are not just actors slash whatever; they are filmmakers as well,” he continued. “They’re film buffs, and being film buffs, they look at acting from the point of view of what the final film will be like. And so that actually helps inform them as filmmakers.”

Insidious: The Red Door is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 7, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
