The first trailer for director Brandon Cronenberg’s latest outing, Infinity Pool, has arrived. And audiences are in for a twisted tale of hedonism and violence. Released courtesy of NEON, Infinity Pool stars The Northman’s Alexander Skarsgård and Dopesick star Cleopatra Coleman, a couple who find themselves in an increasingly warped situation. Check out the new trailer for Infinity Pool below.

While staying at an isolated island resort, James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman) are enjoying a perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. But guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero-tolerance policy for a crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.

Infinity Pool certainly looks unique and should provide all the horror, terror, intensity, violence, and whatever other warped desires you could possibly hope for. Written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, the son of body horror maestro David Cronenberg, Infinity Pool has amassed a stellar cast alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman. The supporting cast includes Mia Goth (X, Pearl), Thomas Kretschmann (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale), Caroline Boulton (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), John Ralston (Ready or Not), Jeff Ricketts (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Jalil Lespert (Yves Saint Laurent), and Roderick Hill (The Witcher).

NEON will co-finance and executive produce Infinity Pool alongside Topic Studios, with Telefilm Canada and the Croatian Film Fund also onboard to help co-finance the production.

While director Brandon Cronenberg only has a few credits to his name thus far, the filmmaker has already impressed with both the science fiction horror flick Antiviral back in 2012 and the delightfully disturbing psychological horror movie Possessor in 2020. Starring Andrea Riseborough as an assassin who performs her assignments by possessing the bodies of other individuals, Possessor finds her fighting to control the body of her latest target. Possessor currently sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Cronenberg praised for his “provocative vision” and “stylishly disturbing thrills.”

As for Infinity Pool, Cronenberg has struggled to secure an R rating for the movie. Infinity Pool was initially slapped with an NC-17 rating from the board at the Motion Picture Association thanks to “some graphic violence and sexual content.” However, the filmmaker has since recut the movie to get the desired rating. Infinity Pool is due to have its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival alongside the likes of birth/rebirth, L’Immensità, It’s Only Life After All, Kim’s Video, Little Richard: I Am Everything, The Longest Goodbye, The Pod Generation, Radical, Shayda, Sometimes I Think About Dying, and Run Rabbit Run.

Infinity Pool is just one of several projects on the horizon for Alexander Skarsgård, with the actor due to star in the directorial debut of actor Michael Shannon, Eric Larue, as well as the biographical movie Lee, alongside Kate Winslet, Andy Samberg, and Marion Cotillard.
