‘I’m expecting the child to be funny’: Eddie Murphy’s son ties the knot with Martin Lawrence’s daughter

Hollywood’s comedy legends have just brought their families closer together. Eddie Murphy announced on The Jennifer Hudson Show that his son, Eric Murphy, has quietly married Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence. The wedding was very different from the big, fancy event people might have expected. Instead, it happened in a simple way just two weeks before the interview, with only the couple and a minister present.

Murphy shared that even though there had been plans for a larger wedding, Eric and Jasmin chose to keep things small and personal. “They went off and got married at the church,” Murphy said. “It was just the two of them and the preacher. They kept it quiet and simple. But I think we’ll still have a big party later to celebrate,” according to USA Today.

This small ceremony doesn’t mean the celebrations are over, though. Murphy confirmed that a bigger event would happen to honor the marriage of his son and Lawrence’s daughter.

This surprise wedding officially makes two of Hollywood’s most famous comedy stars a family. Murphy couldn’t help but joke about it, saying, “Yeah, we’re in-laws now,” and laughing as he added, “And now he doesn’t have to pay for that huge wedding.” This refers to the playful arguments Murphy and Lawrence had in the past about who would cover the costs of a possible expensive wedding.

The two actors, who have worked together in movies like Life and Boomerang, have been friends for a long time, and now their families are connected too. Jasmin and Eric’s relationship started in 2021 when they made their romance public. Surprisingly, they didn’t meet through their famous fathers. In 2022, Jasmin explained that they were introduced by her uncle, calling their connection a lucky coincidence.

“It wasn’t even through our dads, even though they’ve made movies together and are friends,” she said. “It’s funny how it happened. We met through my uncle, and we became really close friends. We had a lot in common, and because of our similar backgrounds, we understood each other in a special way.” Their friendship grew into love, and in November 2024, they shared the happy news of their engagement in a sweet video on Instagram.

Eric, who is 35, and Jasmin, who is 29, both shared their excitement about their future together. Jasmin wrote in the caption of their engagement video, “We’re engaged!! God truly gave us a love that feels meant to be. We’re so happy for what’s next.”

Eddie Murphy also shared his joy in a joking way when he talked to CBS Mornings about the couple’s future children, saying, “If they get married and have a kid, I’m expecting that child to be funny.” It looks like the comedy talent in both families will live on, whether through a big wedding party or maybe even a future funny kid.
