TikTok is one of the most popular apps in the world, and it has been that way for years now. The thing is, TikTok may get banned in the US in the near future, and if that happens, bringing back Vine may be a good idea.
Bringing back Vine may be a good idea if TikTok gets banned
As most of you know, TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company. The US has been worried about privacy and security for a while now, and those concerns are constantly rising.
The US House of Representatives banned TikTok from its devices recently, while Georgia and several other states banned TikTok from government devices too. A report recently surfaced claiming that TikTok tracked US journalists too. Things have been piling up, and a ban could happen.
ByteDance said a number of times it’s willing to work with the US in order to address their concerns, and that it’s doing what it can on its part. The company, of course, doesn’t want to lose access to the US market.
A report from last month suggested Vine’s return may be on the cards
If that happens, bringing back Vine is in the cards. A report surfaced in early November, claiming that Elon Musk may revive Vine following the Twitter deal. We didn’t hear anything about it since then, though.
Vine was ultimately shut down back in 2016, and many believed it was ahead of its time. For those of you out of the loop, Vine was a short-form video app, in some ways very similar to TikTok. It is well remembered by the Gen Z especially.
These are the US states most interested in Vine’s return
Now, a report by authority.org reveals 10 US states that are most interested in getting Vine back. Those states are Tennessee, Florida, Ohio, Arizona, Indiana, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Virginia, and Kentucky.
The map you can see above is based on geotagged Twitter data in the last 30 days, approximately. It’s based on tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases. Phrases and hashtags such as “bring back Vine”, “revive Vine”, #BringBackVine, #vineapp, and more have been tracked. Over 110,000 tweets were tracked, it is mentioned.
It’s up to Elon Musk
Considering everything, getting Vine back on the map may not be a bad idea for Musk. If TikTok gets banned, the US will be left without the most popular short-form video app. Instagram and Facebook will surely try to take over, but Vine could have a chance.
