Deadpool 3 is finally ready to go before the cameras, and the shoot is expected to begin imminently. Ryan Reynolds’ MCU debut is one of the most hotly-anticipated superhero movies, with the Fox version of the character making the leap over to Marvel Studios with his R-rating intact.
Fans would be excited for that alone, but hype levels reached fever pitch when it was confirmed that the Merc with the Mouth would be crossing blades with Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. Jackman had long been adamant that Logan was his farewell to the role, but it seems Reynolds convinced him to strap on the claws for one more adventure.
Jackman appeared at last night’s Met Gala looking equal parts bearded and stylish, and posted an image to his Instagram that had many instantly clock that the timing likely means that this is how Wolverine will look in Deadpool 3.
Based on the beard, we think we’re getting a Wolverine similar to the take seen in Logan, which will be an interesting contrast to the upbeat comedic antics of Deadpool.
By the time you read this, the cameras may already be rolling on Deadpool 3, so we’re hopeful for some set pics showing Reynolds and Jackman on set and in character. Given their famous faux-rivalry off camera, we’re betting at least part of the movie will see the two regenerative mutants hacking chunks off each other, though by the time the credits roll we think they’ll have found some common ground.
Whether Jackman’s Logan will stick around in the MCU remains to be seen. Marvel Studios is currently cooking up its own take on the mutant world to come over the next few phases, so chances are the franchise will debut its own brand new version of the character. But if Jackman wants to commit long-term, we doubt there’ll be many complaints.
Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
