As some of you already know, Huawei is rumored to release a foldable smartphone next month. According to rumors, that could be Huawei’s first clamshell foldable smartphone, and a new rumor says it will include a brand new hinge.
This information comes from industry sources, from Zhaoli Technology. Huawei allegedly worked on this new hinge for quite some time, and that it’s finally ready for primetime.
Huawei’s first clamshell foldable will have a brand new hinge
Huawei already announced several foldable smartphones. The Huawei Mate X arrived first, and then the Mate Xs which essentially improved upon the Mate X design, but looked almost the same.
The Huawei Mate X2 was a considerable improvement for Huawei, though. All three of those phones were essentially smartphones that unfolded into tablets. The latter was inspired by the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and was not outwards folding like its predecessors.
Huawei did not announce a single flip phone foldable, or a clamshell foldable, so this will be its first one, if rumors are to be believed. We still don’t know how will it look, the concept images shown below are trying to guess. It is even possible they’re somewhat accurate as they’re based on design patents.
The phone may not even have a punch hole on the main display
It will be interesting to see if Huawei plans to ditch the front-facing camera altogether. It’s possible, if it ends up having a secondary display, as these images seem to suggest. That way, its main camera will be usable as selfie shooters.
This design does look quite nice, but it remains to be seen if Huawei will be able to achieve this. The bezels are really thin, and the phone looks really sleek overall.
This handset will quite probably be well-specced, though no details leaked regarding that. We’ll just have to wait and see. Both Huawei and OPPO are rumored to announce foldable devices in December, by the way. We still don’t know when exactly are they coming, though.
