The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra teardown appeared online, and it confirmed the 7nm Kirin 9010. We knew that was the chip used, but we were not 100% sure it was a 7nm processor.

The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra teardown confirms the Kirin 9010 is a 7nm chip

TechInsights just confirmed as much, and it’s exactly what we expected it to be. SMIC manufactured this chip for Huawei. The same company is expected to do the same with a 5nm processor later this year, of the Huawei Mate 70 series.

As many of you know, Huawei is under the US ban, which managed to complicated a lot of things for the company. Huawei was unable to include 5G connectivity on its phones for years. It managed to do that last year with the Mate 60 series thanks to the Kirin 9000S.

The Kirin 9000S is also a 7nm processor manufactured by SMIC. The Kirin 9010 comes with a 12-core CPU cluster, not an 8-core one. Also, the company went for a 2+6+4 configuration here. The chip also supports LPDDR5X RAM.

It has the same GPU as the Kirin 9000S, but with more cores

The Maleoon 910 GPU is included, as is in the Kirin 9000S. The thing is, this GPU has lower clock speeds, but more cores overall, and should offer better performance as a result.

With that being said, the Kirin 9010 fuels the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Ultra devices. Those phones launched in China only. Huawei is expected to launch its Pura 70 series globally too, but it remains to be seen if the same SoC will be used.

Huawei could reach for a different chip in the global models, it remains to be seen. We’re still not sure when will it happen, in fact, Huawei hasn’t flat-out confirm it yet. We have a feeling it will happen, however, as that’s what happened in the past with this series. Well, truth be said, until this year, these were Huawei P series smartphones, not Pura series devices. Huawei decided to rebrand them.
