Huawei has announced its new foldable, the Nova Flip. This is actually the company’s first foldable smartphone launched under the Nova series. It is basically a more affordable flip phone for consumers.
The Huawei Nova Flip was launched in China, and it’s made out of metal and glass/vegan leather. It has a centered display camera hole on its main display, up top. It also includes rather thin bezels around that display.
The Huawei Nova Flip is official with two backplate materials, fast charging & more
The cover display is placed next to the vertically-aligned cameras (two of them). That panel is not particularly large, but it’s larger than the one on the Huawei Pocket S was. Considerably larger. The Huawei Pocket S was the company’s first budget flip phone foldable.
The Huawei Nova Flip also has a flat frame all around, while its front and back sides are also flat, not counting the camera island, of course. All the physical buttons are located on the right-hand side, with the power/lock key placed below the volume up and down buttons.
The device is fueled by the Kirin 8000 chip, another new processor from the company. That chip was not officially announced just yet, by the way. The phone also includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.
A truly large main display is on offer here
A 6.94-inch main display offers a resolution of 2690 x 1136 pixels. It’s an LTPO AMOLED display. Its refresh rate goes from 1 to 120Hz. The cover display is also of the OLED variety, and it measures 2.14 inches. It has a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate.
HarmonyOS 4.2 comes pre-installed on this smartphone, while plenty of AI features are included too. A 4,400mAh battery is also a part of the package, while the phone supports 66W wired charging.
A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.9 aperture) is backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide unit (f/2.2 aperture). That ultrawide camera is also used for macro photography. A 32-megapixel selfie camera (f/2.2 aperture, 90-degree FoV) sits on the phone’s main display. This phone is also using Huawei’s DaVinci Portrait Engine 2.0.
There are two SIM card slots here, while Bluetooth 5.2 is supported. We’re not sure what’s the situation with 5G just yet, but 4G is supported here. 5G probably is as well, in China, considering the chip.
It comes in several color options, one of which has vegan leather on the back
The Huawei Nova Flip measures 169.77 x 75.4 x 6.88mm when unfolded. When folded, it measures 87.76 x 75.4 x 15.12mm. This device comes in Cherry Pink, New Green, Star Black (leather), and Zero-Degree White colors. Its pricing starts at CNY5,288 ($741) and goes up to CNY6,488 ($909) for the 1TB model.
The phone is available to pre-order in China as we speak. Chances are that this device will launch in other markets too, but it remains to be seen.
