Notifications are one of the best parts of Android. The control you have over your notifications is immense. That being said, we can’t always pay attention to notifications, and at times we do get annoyed by them. For example, what if you’re currently doing something on your phone, and new notifications from a pesky group chat are coming in. Well, you can quickly snooze them. In this article, we’ll show you how to snooze notifications on Android.

Do note that we’re using the Pixel 4a running Android 12 to demonstrate this feature. So, it may work differently on different OS variants, and different skins. This feature has been present in Android 11, and even in Android 10, I believe. Having said that, it may not be enabled by default on our device, so we’ll show you how to enable it as well, towards the end of this article. Having said that, let’s get started.

How to snooze notifications on Android

In order to snooze a pesky notification from an app that you really don’t want to deal with right now, simply swipe down to access your notification shade. Find the notification that you want to snooze. You’ll see the clock icon in the bottom-right corner, with the letter ‘Z’ in the middle. Tap that option.

That notification will be snoozed immediately, and you’ll even be able to choose for how long. You will notice the drop-down menu that you can tap in order to access more options.

On stock Android 12, you can choose between 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 2 hours of snoozing. Different OEMs may offer different options, though.

One thing to note when it comes to snoozing is that you can snooze specific conversations as well. Not in all apps, though, of course. In most messaging apps, that is possible. If you receive a notification from Group A on Facebook Messenger, for example, and snooze that from the notification shade, only notifications from that group will be snoozed.

How to enable notification snoozing

If notification snoozing is not enabled on your device, you can easily enable it, at least on stock Android. The first thing you’ll need to do is access your phone’s settings. Once you do that, you’ll need to tap the search field at the top, and type in “notification snoozing”. Once you do that, an option will open below, and you’ll either be able to enable it from there, or tap the option to access it directly.

If you tap the option, not the toggle, you’ll be thrown into the notifications menu, where this option is located. From there, you can enable/disable it via a toggle, which is the same thing you could have done from the previous menu.
