Connecting a new remote to your Fire TV Stick is actually pretty easy to do. To pair a remote with your Fire TV Stick, it’s basically pressing one button for a few seconds and that’s it. Though it’s not immediately apparent, which is why it is important to go over this in this tutorial. So today, we’ll be showing you how you can pair a new remote with your Fire TV Stick.
The Amazon Fire TV platform is one of the most popular streaming TV platforms out there, behind Roku. Which is pretty impressive, though Amazon does like to give away its Fire TV products for next to nothing. So most of us probably have a Fire TV Stick, whether we use it or not. Because it was free with something.
We will be going over how to pair your primary remote with your Fire TV Stick, as well as an additional remote and a third-party remote. So it’ll be covered from all bases. But why would you want to do this?
Why would you want to pair a new remote with your Fire TV Stick?
There’s a number of reasons why you would want to pair a new remote with your Fire TV Stick. The first one being that you’re remote died, and you don’t want to buy an entirely new Fire TV Stick. That is possible and also cheaper – depending on the Fire TV Stick you’re using.
Another reason is that you want to upgrade to the new remote that Amazon has launched. Amazon has launched a few different versions of the Fire TV Stick remote. With the latest model having a power button, dedicated Alexa button (instead of just a microphone) and volume control. Making it a lot easier to use on your TV, versus the older remote that still required you to use your TV’s remote to actually turn it on/off and adjust the volume.
Or maybe you need a second remote or a game controller to play some games on your Fire TV Stick. Remember, Amazon does have Luna now, which is their game streaming service. And it does work on the Fire TV Stick. While you can use Amazon’s own Luna controller, there are other controllers that might be better that can be used on the Fire TV Stick. Like the Sony DualShock 4 controller, which is the best controller out there right now.
These are all valid reasons, and likely even more reasons are available for why you need to pair a new remote with your Fire TV Stick. So without further ado, here’s how you can pair a new remote with your Fire TV Stick.
Which models does this work with?
Currently, this method of pairing a new remote with your Fire TV works with all current models of the Fire TV Stick. That includes:
It’ll also work with the set-top boxes like the Amazon Fire TV Cube. This also works with Amazon FireOS 7.2 and later. It’ll be a similar process for earlier versions of FireOS, but not the exact way.
How to pair your primary remote with your Fire TV Stick
During set up of your Fire TV Stick, you would have paired your primary remote. But if you bought a new remote, then this is for you. First make sure that your new remote has fresh batteries, so you won’t encounter any issues with pairing.
Next, turn on your Fire TV Stick.
Then bring the remove closer to the Fire TV Stick and press and hold the home button for about 10 seconds.
You’ll see a light blinking on your remote, then you can let go of your Home button.
And that’s it. Your remote is now paired with your Fire TV Stick. It’s just that easy.
Pair another remote with your Fire TV Stick
You can use other remotes with your Fire TV Stick, luckily if you don’t like the Amazon remote. And here’s how you can do that.
Navigate over to Settings on your Fire TV Stick. It’ll be to the right of all your apps in that top row.
From there, you’ll want to navigate down to “Remotes & Bluetooth Devices”. And tap on that.
Next, choose “Amazon Fire TV Remotes”.
Then, select “Add new Remote” to pair your new remote with your Fire TV Stick.
Your Fire TV Stick will now ask you to press and hold the Home button for about 10 seconds, until you see the light blinking on your Fire TV Remote. And then you’re all set.
Remember, this only works for Amazon’s own Fire TV Stick remotes, not third-party remotes.
Pair a third-party remove with Amazon Fire TV Stick
Finally, you can pair a third-party remote with your Fire TV Stick, as well. Though this will be very rare, and really only happen if you’re pairing a game controller. But it is possible.
To do this, navigate over to Settings on your Fire TV Stick interface.
Then navigate down to “Removes & Bluetooth Devices” and tap on it.
Then you’ll want to find “Amazon Fire TV Remotes”.
And then “Add new Remote” to pair your new remote or game controller with your Fire TV Stick.
Then you should be all set. There might be a few more steps involved depending on the remote that you’re adding to your Amazon Fire TV Stick.
