Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone was released in late July and with it came a handful of upgrades, but also some fun features like the Camcorder Grip.
I briefly talked about this feature in my Galaxy Z Flip 6 review, and the review is worth checking out if you’re considering getting this device. As for the Camcorder Grip feature, this is a neat way to record videos using your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Setting it up is really easy to do and just takes a few steps. Then you’ll be off to recording all your videos this way. It’s not only more fun but a little more convenient I think because you can record video one-handed. Not to mention that to me it feels like recording this way is fairly stable so you don’t need a tool like a gimbal.
If you have a Galaxy Z Flip 6 already or you’re getting one soon, this handy guide will show you how to activate the Camcorder Grip for all your video recording sessions. Here’s how to set that up.
How to enable the Camcorder Grip on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
While I do think the Camcorder Grip is a more useful and efficient way to record video with this phone, not everyone is going to prefer this method. However, I do think everyone should at least give it a try. Because it can be really simple to use. With that said, here is what you need to do.
Open up the camera app
To get things started, all you have to do is open up the camera app. A really simple first step, and not one that really takes a lot of effort. Especially since you’re likely already going to be using this app a lot.
Tap over to the video mode
Now just open up the video mode and get ready to start recording.
Fold the phone 90 degrees
Now that the video mode is up before you start recording, fold the phone 90 degrees. This way it’s folded halfway. You want the cover screen cameras (the main cameras) to be facing the subject you want to record.
Start recording
Now that you have the phone folded to 90 degrees, hit the record button to start recording and the Camcorder Grip feature is enabled automatically. Now just hold the back half of the phone between your palm and fingers as you move the phone around to record as needed.
The best part about this recording method is the controls though. The part of the screen that sits by your thumb has a zoom slider button and buttons for pausing and stopping the recording. This is actually really nifty because if you need to zoom in and out, all you have to do is drag your thumb up and down the slider bar. The pause and stop buttons are also really close to the zoom bar so everything is within reach.
Additionally, there are two other buttons right near your thumb for easy access. The button to swap to the camera facing you, and the button for snapping still images while recording. So if you see a nice camera shot you want in the process of recording you can take that photo really easily.
And that’s basically it. As we said, really simple to enable and really simple to use. And there are some nice benefits to it. This is also a feature that’s unique to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Meaning the Galaxy Z Fold 6 does not have it. Quite simply because of how tall and wide it is when folded the same way.
