Former UFC Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has become quite the household name ahead of his boxing match against YouTuber and aspiring professional boxer Jake Paul.
While a dominant force within the MMA world, Woodley isn’t someone that the average boxing fan is familiar with, especially given this bout against Paul will be his very first professional boxing match.
During his run in the UFC, Tyron Woodley showcased both his wrestling base and knock-out power on his way to claim the Welterweight title, which he held for many years and successfully defended five times. Over the past few years, Woodley’s MMA career has been on a downward trend with four back-to-back losses. But the MMA star is looking to find longevity in a boxing career starting with Paul.
How old is Tyron Woodley?
Born on April 7, 1982, Tyron Woodley is currently 39 years of age. While this might seem quite old to be beginning a boxing career, “The Chosen One” began his MMA career in 2009 at 27 years old.
Since then Woodley has trained extensively in a mix of martial arts disciplines, however, over his recent fight camp heading into what would be his final UFC bout against Vincente Luque, he began to focus on boxing.
Woodley’s MMA record stands at 19 wins to 7 losses with seven wins coming by TKO/ KO, five wins by submission, and seven by decision.
If Woodley is able to get one over Paul in this upcoming high-profile bout, it would propel him into the running to face off against some of boxing’s most respected names. While less experienced in the ring than Paul, over the years Tyron Woodley has had plenty of experience under pressure in the cage.
