HONOR launched the Magic V3 (review) last year as one of the slimmest foldable smartphones with a waistline of 4.35mm. It is now planning to launch the phone’s successor, presumably called the HONOR Magic V5, soon. Ahead of the launch, HONOR executive Li Kun recently suggested the upcoming foldable will utilize the regular version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Now, the alleged HONOR Magic V5 has surfaced in the database of the benchmarking tool Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which suggests it’ll be a powerhouse.

HONOR’s Magic V5 will sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16GB RAM

Recently, a tipster spotted HONOR’s alleged Magic V5 (MHG-AN00) on Geekbench, revealing Qualcomm’s current top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The octa-core processor has six cores with a clock speed of 3.53GHz and two cores ticking at 4.47GHz. An Adreno 830 GPU complements the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Interestingly, the HONOR device on Geekbench has 16GB of RAM. In comparison, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7’s recent Geekbench listing suggested just 12GB of RAM onboard the device. Besides, the Geekbench listing has confirmed that the Magic V5 will boot Android 15 out of the box.

HONOR has already teased the Magic V5’s thinness

HONOR executive Li Kun has already hinted that the Magic V5 will be the lightest and thinnest foldable smartphone on the market. The company will have to keep its thickness under 9mm in the folded state if it wants the Magic V5 to claim the title of the slimmest phone in its segment. Its predecessor, the Magic V3, is already incredibly slim with a 9.2mm waistline in the folded state and 4.35mm thickness in the unfolded mode.

As for the other specs, the HONOR Magic V5 could get an upgrade in the battery department. Last month, the phone appeared in the database of China’s MIIT and 3C certification websites. As per the certifications, the phone will have a 2,070mAh and a 3,880mAh dual-cell battery. The device could have a rated battery capacity of 5,950mAh, which HONOR may market as a 6,100mAh typical power cell.

Some reports claim that HONOR will offer a 50MP OIS-enabled main camera on the Magic V5. The main sensor will allegedly be accompanied by a 200MP periscope telephoto lens and an ultrawide-angle lens.

As per the launch timeframe, the company has already hinted that it’ll launch the new Magic series foldable at some point in June. Once launched, HONOR’s new offering will be competing against the upcoming foldable devices from OPPO, Vivo, and Samsung.
