The HONOR Magic V will become the very first foldable smartphone to ship with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This information is based on a leaked presentation slide that comes out of China. The HONOR Magic V design has also been revealed thanks to an official teaser video.
The HONOR Magic V design revealed thanks to an official teaser video
The aforementioned presentation slide mentions the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be included in the device. HONOR did confirm that the phone is coming, but it did not reveal any of its specifications.
That being said, the HONOR Magic V is expected to launch next month, and an additional teaser video appeared, revealing the phone’s design. If you take a look at the gallery below the article, you’ll see the teaser images taken from the video, and the video itself.
This teaser is actually quite revealing, as it confirms this phone will open up like a book. It will be a competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and OPPO Find N, rather than being a clamshell foldable.
Many people jumped to conclusions, expecting a rebranded Huawei P50 Pocket here. That won’t be the case. The second image in the gallery below shows you the phone’s main display. It will open like a book, and it will be large. You can also see a part of its hinge at the top.
The second image shows its outer display. A display camera hole will be included, and it will be centered. The right side of the display will be curved, similar to what we’ve seen on the OPPO Find N.
The HONOR Magic V will be narrow and tall, larger than the OPPO Find N
Unlike the OPPO Find N, this phone will be extremely narrow and tall. So, it seems like HONOR is aiming for a design closer to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It seems like there won’t be a display camera hole on the phone’s main display. HONOR may use an under-display camera, or not use a camera there at all.
You can always unfold the device and use its main cameras with a display on the side, or use the front-facing camera on the secondary display. We’ll see what HONOR will opt for.
The last image in the gallery shows a part of the phone’s hinge, along with a semi-folded state of the device. You can also see a Type-C USB port, and the phone’s main, bottom-firing speaker.
The HONOR Magic V will almost certainly make its way to global markets after it launches in China.
HONOR has achieved a great balance between the weight and experience on #HONORMagicV.
