Summary: HONOR has partnered with Google to announce a set of AI-powered image editing features for its mobile devices. They are designed to enhance and facilitate users’ photography and image editing experience. The features also boast generative AI capabilities thanks to Google’s Imagen Model.

HONOR plans to launch new mobile devices in the coming weeks. Before then, the company teased some of the main AI-powered features they could integrate. HONOR isn’t the first name that comes to mind when talking about artificial intelligence in mobile devices. However, the Chinese firm, formerly part of Huawei, wants to change that. HONOR has announced a set of useful AI-powered image editing features for its future devices.

Recently, Google held its Cloud Next 25 event in Las Vegas. Third-party companies, such as HONOR itself, also attended to reveal some of their advancements. As expected, this year’s edition focused heavily on AI developments, both for businesses and developers. However, HONOR took the opportunity to reveal a set of tools that will be available to end users: the AiMAGE suite.

AiMAGE, HONOR’s suite of AI image editing features with Google support

The company began the presentation of its AiMAGE suite with AI Outpainting, a feature that will help you automatically reframe a photo to obtain the best possible result. It will zoom and rotate until the ideal framing is found. The resulting blank areas will be automatically filled thanks to Google’s Imagen Model.

This could be a big thing for mobile photography. One of the great advantages of smartphones is that they allow you to obtain high-quality images with little effort thanks to powerful algorithms. Now, users won’t even have to worry about framing the image correctly. Of course, a professional photographer would prefer to continue manually framing their images. However, they are not the main target of AI Outpainting.

There’s also AI Eraser, a feature we’ve already seen in products from other brands. As its name suggests, it will allow you to remove unwanted elements from an image in just a few taps. Google’s Imagen model will assist by automatically filling in the blanks with a contextually appropriate result.

Lastly, there’s AI Upscale, a feature specifically designed to restore old portraits. It allows you to breathe new life into your precious old family photos.

It’s noteworthy that these features are already available on a few products. One such device is the recently launched Honor 400 Lite. According to HONOR, these features are just the company’s first steps in artificial intelligence for phones. The firm is also experimenting with Veo, Google’s AI video generation model.
