HONOR has just announced a global rollout of its intent-based eye tracking technology. This is industry-first tech, by the way, even though we did see other eye tracking technologies in the smartphone world.

HONOR’s intent-based eye tracking tech starts its global rollout on August 27

The company announced that the technology will become available starting from August 27. It will be available on devices including the HONOR Magic6 Pro, the company’s current flagship smartphone. No other devices were mentioned by the company, though.

This Chinese tech giant also announced that it’s exploring more possibilities for its multimodal AI technology. The same goes for investments in non-invasive brain computer interface (BCI) technology. HONOR basically wants to make assistive technology more accessible to everyone.

Related to this topic, BBC Storyworks+ latest episode actually tells the story of Bernard Muller, who was diagnosed with ALS 14 years ago. Today he’s using eye tracking technology in order to communicate and “create stunning artworks”, as was said in the episode. You can learn more about his story by clicking here, or running the video embedded below.

HONOR also shared an inspirational video, showing the importance of this technology

It’s a three-minute video that will give outsiders some perspective on how difficult it is to live with ALS. Technologies such as eye tracking can make a huge difference.

Bernard Muller is using the HONOR Magic6 Pro in order to utilize that tech. He’s able to use the tech to communicate with loved ones, general phone use, and also create some truly inspirational art.

#HONORtheChallenger hashtag managed to go viral on social media lately. It is “celebrating the spirit of ALS Challengers who defy boundaries everyday while helping to raise awareness for the ALS community“. Over 4,000 people joined the movement thus far.

There are a lot of possibilities for the tech moving forward, that’s for sure. So let’s hope it will continue evolving. The HONOR Magic6 Pro users will be able to experience this tech later this month. As already mentioned, it’s coming to the device on August 27. The rollout will likely be gradual, so keep that in mind.
