The first trailer for the upcoming action outing, Heart of Stone, has been released as part of the Netflix ‘Tudum’ Global Fan Event. Released courtesy of Netflix, Heart of Stone is all set to be led by Wonder Woman and Furious 7 star Gal Gadot, with the streaming platform hoping that Heart of Stone will become another major action franchise akin to their 2020 action hit, Extraction. Check out the first trailer for Heart of Stone below.

Heart of Stone will center on elite agent Rachel Stone, who harbors a secret even bigger than her career with the CIA: She’s the only woman who stands between an ultra-mysterious, powerful, global, peace-keeping organization the Charter, and the loss of its most valuable – and most dangerous – asset, the Heart.

Heart of Stone Promises to Kickstart a New Bond-Esque Franchise

Both Netflix and the cast and crew involved in Heart of Stone have high hopes that this first outing will kickstart an ongoing, James Bond-esque franchise. Gadot is excited to lead an action movie solo, with the Red Notice star jumping aboard and realizing there is an audience crying out for a female action hero. “I realised that there was an audience for a female action protagonist,” Gadot said recently of her leading role in Heart of Stone. “I grew up watching Bond, and Mission, and Bourne. I wanted to create a really strong, female-driven action movie that is for everybody, not a male story that’s been done many times already.”

And Gadot has committed herself to bringing Heart of Stone to life as best she can, throwing herself into as many stunts as possible. “What I can do as an actor, I’ll always go for it and […] fight with intention and really perform that,” she said, though she is willing to step aside to let the professionals take over where necessary. “The crazy, crazy stuff, I can’t, they won’t let me!”

Gadot is not the only one with aspirations of creating an action movie franchise, with director Tom Harper hoping that Heart of Stone will pick up the baton from the likes of James Bond and Jason Bourne. “I love those films, but they’ve all been around for decades, so working on something that was an addition to that genre, but an original piece of material felt really exciting and was a real opportunity,” he said.

Heart of Stone is scheduled to be released on August 11, 2023, by Netflix.
