John Stewart takes flight in the new trailer for the upcoming DC animated adventure, Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Released courtesy of IGN, Green Lantern: Beware My Power puts the spotlight on one of the most beloved members of the Green Lantern Corps. and the Justice League, John Stewart, exploring his origin and how he came into possession of the ring of power.

“In Green Lantern: Beware My Power, recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extraterrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth,” the official synopsis for the DC animated movie reads. “Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.”

Full of interstellar warfare, Yellow Lanterns, and various other superheroes, Green Lantern: Beware My Power looks to include everything that a fan could want in a movie about one of the Emerald Knights. Created by Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams, John Stewart first appeared in 1972’s Green Lantern #87 and has since gone on to become one of the most recognizable characters in the DC universe. Stewart’s popularity greatly increased thanks to his prominent role in the acclaimed animated Justice League series, and it is great to see him take center stage in his own movie.

HBO Max is Developing a Live-Action Green Lantern Series

Outside of the animated world, an area that DC tends to do very well in, Green Lantern is also due to once again leap into live-action thanks to HBO Max. Greg Berlanti will produce the series with Seth Grahame-Smith as the showrunner and co-writer alongside Marc Guggenheim. The Green Lantern series will focus on multiple human members of the Green Lanterns Corps. such as Alan Scott, played by Jeremy Irvine, Guy Gardner, played by Finn Wittrock), and Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz.

The Green Lantern series will reportedly have a dark tone akin to the recent Watchmen series, with showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith having recently teased the scale of the show. “Yeah, that show is gigantic,” Grahame-Smith said. “It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point and it’s just a big, big undertaking. It’s going really well. All I can say is that it’s going really well and there are gonna be Green Lanterns in it, and it’s gonna be on HBO Max.”

The Green Lanterns have had decidedly mixed results when being adapted, even according to the cast and crew behind some of the adaptations, so here’s hoping that the HBO Max project will finally do the DC icons justice.

Until then, the animated outing Green Lantern: Beware My Power is available on 4K, Blu-ray & Digital starting July 26, 2022.
