During the latest Made by Google event, the Mountain View giant launched the long-awaited Pixel 9 series. All the company’s new phones come with faster charging, although the Pixel 9 Pro XL stands out above all. To take full advantage of the devices’ charging capabilities, Google launched a new 45W fast charger.
Until now, Google’s most powerful charger supported a maximum output of 25W. However, the company is replacing it with a new model that is now available for pre-order on the Google Store. The revamped charger features a new design with a rounded rear casing and a flat front that sits flush against the wall when plugged in.

The adapter has a single USB-C port, though keep in mind that you’ll need a fast-charging compatible cable for it to work properly. Unfortunately, the cable is not included in the box. Google also sells cables (USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to USB-C) for $20 each on its online store.
According to official Google data, the new adapter can charge 55% of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro’s batteries in about 30 minutes. For reference, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro’s batteries reach 50% in the same amount of time. So, while there is an improvement, it’s not massive. But it’s a different story with the Pixel 9 Pro XL, whose battery is capable of charging up to 70% in those 30 minutes.
Google is one of the companies that maintains a conservative line when it comes to fast charging. A few like Samsung, Sony, and Apple follow the same strategy. This contrasts with the impressive 100W+ charging capabilities offered by other modern Android phones. At least it’s good to see that the company has improved a bit in this area. Hopefully, we’ll see more significant advances in future Pixel generations.
The new Google 45W fast charger supports USB PD 3.1 and PPS standards. So, you can use it with most modern devices (even laptops). You can pre-order it from the Google Store for $29.99.
