Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series has leaked in almost every way imaginable, but the leaks aren’t done as images have just surfaced of the company’s new 45W charger. While the charger isn’t likely to be packaged with Google’s new phones, it seems pretty clear that Google will offer the charger as an optional accessory, most certainly at launch.
The brand-new 45W charger was leaked yesterday initially. But that leak didn’t include the design. It comes with a significantly different design than the charging adapter that’s currently offered. The other notable difference is that the currently available charger is 30W. Whereas this new charger is 45W. So you’ll be able to charge your devices faster with this new unit.
The higher wattage also probably means that it’s going to cost more. Google’s current 30W USB-C charger costs $25 on the Google Store. So expect the new 45W charger to be at least $30-$35.
The new 45W Google charger will likely launch alongside the Pixel 9 series
As mentioned above Google probably won’t be packaging this charger in the box with its new phones. For the past few generations, Pixel devices have come with the USB-C charging cable only. Google opted to sell a USB-C charging adapter as an optional accessory for anyone who needed it.
This will probably be the case with the Pixel 9 series as well. Given the slower charging speeds of the most recent Pixel phones, you may want to grab one of these when they become available. They should be available at launch as well.
The charger carries a new rounded shape
Most consumers probably don’t care too much about what shape their phone chargers are. But Google does. And the new rounded pill shape fits more in line with the style of Google’s Pixel 9 phones. The charging adapter (leaked by @MysteryLupin on X) now appears taller and the USB-C port has been moved to the bottom of the adapter. To put it another way, the cable now comes out of the bottom of the charger instead of at the back.
This should make it a little easier to fit into certain tight spots where you would have the charging adapter plugged in. For example, say you have it plugged in behind a nightstand. Now that the cable comes out of the bottom of the adapter, it’s not going to have pressure put on it when you push that furniture back.
The images of this particular adapter are for the EU model judging by the prongs. But the main design shouldn’t change for other regions.
