Getting spam emails is a pain in the neck, and your work email could be like flypaper to them. It’s super easy to click on the wrong email and have important data stolen or contract a bit of malware. Thankfully, Google Workspace has a way to avoid clicking on spam emails.

Workspace has a way you can avoid spam emails

According to a blog post from Google, Workspace will have a new way to know which emails are spam. If someone mentions you in a document in Google Workspace, you’d usually get a notification saying so. The thing is that the person mentioning you could be a bad actor masquerading as a team member. This new Workspace feature will make it easier to distinguish between spam emails and fakers.

On the notification you get, it will show the person’s email address. It seems like a little thing, but before, it would only show the person’s name and the comment. Anyone can spoof a name, but you can’t cover up an email address. If the email address you’re getting the notification from is different from your teammate’s, then you know you have a spam email.

This feature is rolling out to both paid and free Google Workspace users, so it will cover a broad spectrum of users. It will be rolling out within the next few weeks.

Spam emails are really dangerous

Spam emails are bad in any sense, but they strike a different nerve when they hit your work email. You handle a lot of important stuff with that particular account, so it’s not fun to know that any bad actors have access to it. Also, it becomes a chore to know if the emails you’re getting are from legitimate sources or not. As it goes, one click can really send your world into a whirlpool.

The trick with spam emails and phishing schemes is that they disguise themselves as legitimate emails to get you to click them. They will use the name of a well-known company or someone in your company to fool you. This is why they’re such a big problem. Hopefully, this new Workspace feature will actually help people avoid spam emails.
