Remember the days when you could buy headphones or earphones, and you didn’t need to think about things like software updates? Boy, has that changed. Modern-day earbuds are powered by software, for which updates are sometimes necessary. If you happen to own a pair of the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, you’ll want to keep an eye out for an update that is rolling out as we speak.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 gets a small update
According to Google’s announcement, the update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is a minor firmware update. Google says this is for bug fixes, so don’t expect any new features or significant changes. “A new firmware update (version 3.154) is now available for your Pixel Buds Pro 2. This update includes minor bug fixes.”
If you have automatic updates enabled, your earbuds will automatically update when it is connected to a Pixel device running Android 6.0 or higher. Google estimates that the update should take about 10 minutes, but you can go ahead and use the earbuds during the download process.
Once the download is complete, the update will install itself once the earbuds are placed back into their charging case.
Those who don’t have automatic updates installed will receive a notification on their device letting them know an update is available. They’ll have to manually initiate the download, which Google says will take about 15 minutes.
No Pixel Buds Pro 3 anytime soon
The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 was released in 2024. So, if you’re hoping to get your hands on the Pixel Buds Pro 3, you’ll have to wait. So far, it seems like the earbuds are refreshed every couple of years. This is fine since we don’t really need annual refreshes.
Also, there’s no real need to wait for the Pixel Buds Pro 3. The Pro 2 is already a pretty amazing set of earbuds (be sure to check out our review). Not only do they sound pretty decent, but Google has introduced AI capabilities to them. This should be useful for those who rely on Google’s Gemini AI features.
