Summary: Google has officially announced the Pixel 9a, maintaining its $499 price point for the 128GB model while offering a 256GB version at $599. Pre-orders are opening next month.
The Google Pixel 9a is finally official. And it’s shaping up to be a pretty impressive phone for the price, though we’ll have to hold judgment on that until we publish our full review, which is coming very soon. However, pre-orders are open right now for the Pixel 9a, so you can order yours now and have it next week.
Google is not raising the price this year, the Pixel 9a will remain at $499. This isn’t a surprise, since the Pixel 8a did get a price increase last year, moving up from $449 to $499. And if the Pixel 9a did get a price increase, it would be hard to justify this being a “budget option”. Meanwhile, the 256GB option will be priced at $599.
Where can you buy Google Pixel 9a?
The Google Pixel 9a, like previous Pixels, will be available virtually everywhere. As well as other retail and carrier partners in April, including Amazon, AT&T, Best Buy, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile. It was originally set to be available next week, but Google has delayed it until April to “check on a component quality issue that’s affecting a small number of Pixel 9a devices.”
It is worth pointing out that the Pixel 9a will be more expensive on Verizon. This is because Verizon will not sell a phone that does not have mmWave included. Like in previous years, Google is not offering mmWave on the main Pixel 9a, only on the Verizon model, which costs $100 more. The good news is, that you can still buy the unlocked model and use it on Verizon, however, you won’t get those fast gigabit speeds that Verizon is kind of known for. That’s what mmWave is responsible for.
As a reminder, the Pixel 9a does sport a larger 6.3-inch display this year, as well as a larger 5,100mAh capacity battery. It is powered by the Tensor G4 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There is also a 256GB storage model. And it will get 7 years of updates.
