According to a report by Kamila Wojciechowska shared via Android Authority, the Google Pixel 9 series will get a new modem. That’s not all, though. Satellite connectivity will also be on offer, for emergencies only, though.

The Google Pixel 9 series will ship with a new modem & satellite connectivity

The new modem part of this report will be especially interesting to some people. Why? Well, becuase Google’s Pixel phones have been having connectivity issues in recent years. Their modems were not the best, and it also affected battery life.

The situation has been improving, but it’s still not where it’s supposed to be. Let’s hope this new modem will improve things. On top of that, it will bring satellite connectivity to the table, which is also commendable, of course.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 users have been having modem-related issues wince the March 2024 update. The Pixel 6 users also encountered problems in the past. It all started with the Tensor chips, when Google switched from Qualcomm’s to Samsung’s modems.

The Samsung Modem 5400 will be included

Now, the report claims that the Pixel 9 series will ship with the Samsung Modem 5400. We still don’t have the details regarding this modem, but we do expect improvements in a number of ways.

The software stack has been upgraded, so hopefully that means better stability. We’re also expecting it to be more power-efficient, and it will be faster as well. It will also offer support for 3GPP Rel. 17, and that will bring support for 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTN), in other words, it will bring satellite-based communication.

Aside from the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, this modem will also be included in the next-gen Pixel Fold device, of course. That makes all the sense in the world as the Tensor G4 will fuel the Pixel Fold 2 as well.
